9-12 Oct 2017: The European Week of Regions and Cities (OPEN DAYS)
On 9-12 October 2017, the next European Week of Regions and Cities (OPEN DAYS) will take place in Brussels, Belgium. The OPEN DAYS are an annual four-day event during which cities and regions showcase examples of ongoing ESIF-funded projects, show how they contribute to creating growth and jobs, and prove the importance of the local and regional level for good European governance.
The OPEN DAYS event has become a key European networking platform for experts involved in regional and local development. Exchange of good practice in economic development and social inclusion, cross-border cooperation, public-private partnerships, regional innovation and community-led local development have become some of its many topics.
The event will bring together thousands of people, including local, regional, national and European decision-makers and experts, from across the EU. Participants will have the chance to exchange knowledge and ideas about, for example, challenges they face in their area and how these can be overcome, as well as the development and implementation of ESIF-funded projects.
More than 100 workshops and debates will be organised, as well as exhibitions and other networking opportunities. In addition to the Brussels-based workshops, some 250 local events are run from September to November all over Europe.
The OPEN DAYS event was created in 2003 when the Committee of the Regions invited Brussels-based local and regional representations to the European Union to open their doors to visitors simultaneously. One year later the European Commission's DG for Regional Policy joined the initiative.
